 Candidate Profile

I bought Kingston Frameworks in 2018 with the goal to stay true to who Kingston Frameworks is while progressing the business forward so my family's legacy can thrive. I am tech savvy from a business, marketing, and IT systems perspective and have used these skills to develop our eCommerce platforms. We have had success with our project: The Artist Wholesale Catalogue, providing high-quality print and frame services to working artists. We now export globally and work with artists all over Canada!

As a father and musician, I love all the family-oriented and artistic aspects and events of our downtown. I have 5 years of experience with the Downtown Kingston Toastmasters Club and 10+ years of sales experience as well as business management, marketing, and financial education through Athabasca University. I am very much pro-development and greater urban density. There is a balance to find, but new building projects and increased population bring greater potential to all businesses downtown. I grew up in the east end of Kingston and went to school at KCVI but have always loved downtown. My mother worked at S&R and my father started Kingston Frameworks, so I spent a lot of time downtown growing up. I treasure our art-inspiring city, rock bands, and our small-town/big-city vibe without being a crowded and loud metropolis.

If I were on the board of the Downtown BIA, I would have a lot to learn but, I want to bring ideas that would fill downtown with creative visuals and experiences while encouraging more west enders to shop and enjoy downtown. Our identity as a creative city is currently underplayed, and yet we are so saturated with talent! (I heard someone say, "I hate going downtown", to my utter shock.)

Finally, I am all in on discussions that increase digital traffic to our local businesses. There are collaborative ways for us to work better together and sell our products to broader audiences. We could consider creating buying groups for common products to secure better rates. In short, I am a great brain-stormer and idea-refiner who is full of hustle, and practical ideas and enthusiastic about increasing the competitiveness and delight of our downtown. Ideas require action and I would be more than happy to put my hand in when it comes time to get things done.
