When can I set up my extended patio?

Temporary sidewalk patio permits are normally valid from May 1st to October 31st.
To be able to open your temporary patio for the 2022 season, all operators must schedule an inspection to receive your Certificate of Compliance and Permit once your patio setup has been completed. The City asks that you provide 48 hours notice in order to schedule your patio inspection, at which time we will review your setup against the approved plans to ensure you meet all conditions of your temporary patio permit. You will receive this information once you have received your final invoice from the City.

Can I extend my patio in a parking space in front of another business?

If you would like to extend your patio further in front of another business (adding another 6-metre increment), then there must be an agreement between the you and the adjacent business whose frontage will be encroached upon with a signed letter of consent.
You will also be required to fund any additional parking spaces displaced including any additional 10-minute pick-up and delivery spaces needed for the block based on consultation with the BIA
A letter of support from the adjacent business is required. Click Here for letter of support document.

Do I have to pay for an extended patio?

In 2022 fees were reapplied to the extended patio program.

What do I have to include in my patio plans?

For all temporary patio applications, the City will require a basic plan / drawing, which will be submitted as part of your Temporary Patio Application 2022. However, some temporary patio configurations may have further requirements. See Section 3.3 for on-street parking space patio conditions.
