Parking in general is a touchy subject in any downtown. Downtown Kingston is no exception. Parking for people who work downtown is a necessary part of running a business in the core. Parking for visitors is necessary to keep everyone in business. So how do we, as a community come to a happy place about parking? Read on for some tips on how you can help make parking in downtown Kingston better for everyone.
Business owners and employees, as tempting as it is to park on the street outside of your business, it's not the best idea. Your neighbours depend on parking for their customers, and when you and/or your employees take up that space on a regular basis it will cause friction. Additionally, parking for more than 3 hours on the main streets, is an infraction and you could end up with a ticket. And lastly, it's the most expensive parking there is. Set an example and get a parking permit, or lease a private space. As a part of onboarding a new employee be sure to let them know that on-street parking is reserved for customers and those with physical disabilities.
There is on-street permit parking available in Areas B, Area C and Area F - all within an easy walk of the downtown core. Area C is the closest as it's just north of Queen St and there are 100 permits available in Area C. Most permits cost $99.75 per month, a couple of zones in Area B are a bit higher.
