Event Details

Promenade is a one day festival that promotes active living and community involvement in the downtown. Many will remember some of the amazing activities from Promenades’ past, and downtown businesses and community groups are sure to amaze again this year! With bouncy castles, robots, giveaways, building challenges for kids, and – of course – shopping, there is something for every member of the family to enjoy!

Streets will be closed from approximately 7:00 am-7:00 pm to allow for set-up and tear-down of the activities. Side streets between Ontario St. and Division St. (with the exception of Barrie Street and Bagot Street) will also be closed for the festival. This better allows for the safe passage of pedestrians across streets during the event. Access to public parking lots will not be affected.

How can you participate

Regardless if this is your first or tenth time participating in a Promenade, it’s always fun to come up with new ideas to better engage the customers coming down for the day. Remember, people are looking for something to do (as well as buy), so the more effort you put into your display, the more you’ll get out of it! And it doesn’t need to be complicated. Here are some suggestions from other businesses:

Invite a local vendor (whose products you sell) to set up that day: outside vendors are not permitted to participate, but if you carry their products in-store and any sales go through your business, this could be a great way to show how your business supports local.

Contact brand reps: Invite reps from brands you sell to come and educate Promenaders about their products.

Giveaways: People love a contest! Consider drawing for a prize the day of Promenade.

Samples: People love free stuff! Perhaps give away samples of goods you sell in-store.

Dress up: Costumes make everything more exciting! Hire a mascot/character or have your staff dress up. Again, this doesn’t have to be complicated, but it’s a great way to create buzz and photo ops!
